Membership Overview
Becoming a member of the Consortium of Medical Schools–Africa (COMS-A) signifies a commitment to a shared vision of advancing medical education and strengthening healthcare systems across the continent. Membership offers a unique platform to connect with a Pan-African network of medical education leaders, collaborate on impactful initiatives, and collectively shape the future of health professions education in Africa.
Criteria & Responsibilities
COMS-A offers various levels of membership (as outlined in Article 5 of the Constitution):
- Full Member: Open to recognized and accredited public, private, or not- for-profit medical schools/colleges in Africa that award medical degrees. Full members have the right to determine COMS-A policies, attend meetings, and are eligible for election to the Executive Committee.
- Affiliate Member: Available to institutions such as medical councils, professional associations, medical student associations, and medical professional societies.
- Associate Member: For schools and colleges connected to medical education but not offering medical degrees, including those training allied health professionals.
- Honorary Member: Granted to recognized retired and meritorious medical educators and leaders.
All members are expected to uphold the Constitution and By-laws of COMS-A, actively engage in the Consortium's activities, and contribute to our shared goals. Full Member medical schools are represented by an officially designated representative in good standing with their national regulatory bodies.
